Hemp is Not Marijuana
Although there is a common misconception about hemp and the components that make it up, hemp is not pot. You can smoke it, extract its oils, eat it, make clothes and ropes out of it, but it will not get you stoned. It is closely related to marijuana, but many years ago, towards the beginning of the hemp industry, the Cannabis Sativa plant became cross bred and manipulated in order to reduce the amount and potency of THC within it.
Hemp Has Different Extraction Methods
When we discuss hemp-derived supplements, we are usually referring to products that contain hemp oil that contains a substantial amount of CBD, also known as cannabidiol. There are various methods of extracting this oil from the plant. Some companies use harsh solvents, others use alcohol, and still, others use a sophisticated system that uses CO2 (carbon dioxide) in liquid form. If any of these methods is something that you may have a sensitivity towards, make sure you do your research on a brand to determine their methods of extraction before you use any of their products.
Hemp Contains THC
Although, as we discussed earlier, hemp is not marijuana it is still related to it. In each harvest of hemp, there is a certain amount of THC that is present. Legally, there should be no more than 0.03% THC content in the plant before it is harvested. This is not near enough to cause a high for a person; however, it is possible to show up as positive in a marijuana urine test. If you are worried about getting a dirty test, you may want to consider using a CBD isolate product because it is void of any other cannabinoids other than CBD.
Hemp is Regulated
Hemp is regulated by the FDA to make sure that it is of decent quality and does not contain more than the allowed amount of THC. There are strict laws and regulations concerning the growth, distribution, and sales of all hemp products.
Hemp is Not for Everybody
Although there are millions of hemp enthusiasts around the world, it doesn’t mean that everybody should use it. The FDA is still not convinced that it is safe for people to use, or that it is even effective for anything. If you are curious about using hemp-derived products, you should make sure that you talk to your doctor about it first. CBD, which is present in all hemp supplements, has been known to cause problems if mixed with other pharmaceuticals. Check with your doctor to make sure CBD is safe for you.
